Numbers don’t really translate anymore whatsoever. We are numbed by the media, and technology in particular, bombarding us with numerical values which have no personal value at all. I have never seen a million dollars, most people have not. I have never been to France, but I know what the Eiffel Tower looks like. Technology separates us from that tangible understanding, that personal knowledge of something which gives an identity to a thought rather than some abstract idea which most people are too “ADD” to contemplate.

I don’t know if your first sentence, “the capacity of data storage increases–and people’s perception of it also increases, the value of money decreases in conjunction” has a correlation at all; however, there is definitely a depreciation for the value of numbers/ammounts/these symbols that used to mean something.

    Thanks for the reply.

Good points. I agree with you that I don’t think my opening sentence necessarily correlated with each other, more like two observations I noticed at the same time and decided to put them together.

I really liked your France-Eiffel tower analogy.
